Just like Amar would always have an opinion of you, in the
first minute of meeting you.
He was a polarizing personality; without a doubt.
Brash, direct and to the point. But also extremely curious,
talkative and social.
But the one thing I will always remember Amar for was his
passion to ensure that people around him always, always had a good time.
Not him. Others who were with him.
I remember two incidents distinctly.
The first was our trip to Durban for Rich’s wedding. On the
morning of the wedding; he reached out to me and Preethi, who he hadn’t met and
the 3 of us went along to a nearby pub for a round of drinks. He had no reason to; but he did. And the 3
hours that followed were full of entertaining conversations, lots of cheer and bonhomie.
A typical “Amar” day, as some of you may call it.
The second was a friendly Spirits match with some random
team. I went in to bat and played a stupid shot and came back to the pavilion.
He made it a point to say something to the effect of “were you thinking out of
your arse” and then repeated that same sentiment in a jovial way during the post-match
drinks.
That incident emobodies Amar’s attitude to a game he loved –
play it with all your heart but do it for the fun of it.
That’s the spirit of Amar. It’ll stay with me forever.
And with the multitude of people he touched.
Amar – you will be missed.
